Flooring products are changing at a more rapid pace than any time in the past. Some of these changes are care and maintenance, the installation process, and where the flooring product will perform.
Has the home or office experienced environmental changes? Along with product reaction to these changes, changes have also arose in maintenance and care by the end user. The materials these products are made from have changed, creating a new set of installation and care procedures. In just hardwood alone, a change from the old standard of 2 ¼” to widths of up to 12” or wider has created a whole new market. These wide planks have natural characteristics that many end users consider a product defect because of the reaction to the environment they are installed. How do you address this?
I would like to hear what process you have in place to make sure you, your coworkers, and staff are keeping on top of these changes. Do you have a continuing education plan for your organization? Do you keep your installation crews or sub-contractors up on the changes? Do you feel it is up to you to keep up, or it’s the end user’s responsibility?
